حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاصَلَ فِي آخِرِ الشَّهْرِ فَوَاصَلَ نَاسٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: " لَوْ مُدَّ لَنَا الشَّهْرُ لَوَاصَلْتُ وِصَالًا يَدَعُ الْمُتَعَمِّقُونَ تَعَمُّقَهُمْ، إِنِّي لَسْتُ مِثْلَكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) observed continuous fasting (Saum Wisal) at the end of a month. Some people also did the same. When the Prophet (ﷺ) was informed, he said: "If this month had been longer, I would have continued fasting for so many days that those who go to extremes in religion would abandon their extremism. I am not like you; my Lord gives me food and drink."
