English translation
It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I used to serve drinks to Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him), Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), Suhail bin Bayda (may Allah be pleased with him), and some other companions (may Allah be pleased with them) before the command of the prohibition of alcohol was revealed, and I would serve them so much that its effects would become apparent on them. One day, a Muslim came and said, "Do you not know that alcohol has been made forbidden?" Upon hearing this, they did not say, "Wait, let us investigate first," but rather said, "Anas! Whatever alcohol is in your vessel, pour it all out." By Allah! After that, they never went near it again, and that too was only nabidh made by mixing fresh and dried dates; this was what was called alcohol at that time.
