Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when a son, Abdullah, was born in the house of Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), I took the child and presented him to the service of the Prophet (ﷺ). I saw that the Prophet (ﷺ) was applying tar to his camels. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Do you have any dates?" I replied, "Yes!" The Prophet (ﷺ) took a date, chewed it in his mouth to soften it, gathered his saliva, and put it into the child's mouth, which he began to suck. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Dates are a beloved thing of the Ansar," and the Prophet (ﷺ) named him Abdullah.
