Musnad Ahmad Hadith 12697

It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ), and the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Soon, a man from among the people of Paradise will come to you." We saw that an Ansari companion was coming, and drops of water from ablution were dripping from his beard, and he was holding his shoes in his left hand. The next day, the Prophet (ﷺ) made the same announcement, and the same companion came. On the third day, the announcement was made again, and again the same companion (may Allah be pleased with him) came. On the third day, when the Prophet (ﷺ) left, Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) followed that companion and said to him, "I have, after making my father swear oaths and insisting a lot, convinced him to let me not go home for three days. If you can let me stay with you, I will do whatever deeds you do." He allowed Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) to stay. Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that he stayed with him for three nights, but did not see him standing (in prayer) at night. However, whenever he woke up from sleep and got up from his bed, he would remember Allah and get up for the Fajr prayer. Also, I always saw him speaking good things. When three nights had passed and I began to consider all my efforts insignificant, I said to him, "Servant of Allah! There is no anger or break in relations between me and my father (because of which I have stayed here), but I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say three times that soon a man from among the people of Paradise will come, and each time it was you who came. So I wished to spend some time with you and observe your deeds and follow them myself, but I did not see you doing many (extra) deeds during this time. So how did you reach the status that the Prophet (ﷺ) said such a great thing about you?" He replied, "The deeds are only what you have seen." Then, when I turned to go back, he called me and said, "The deeds are only what you have seen, but I do not hold any malice in my heart towards any Muslim, nor do I envy anyone for the blessings and goodness that Allah has given them." Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This is the thing that has brought you to this rank, and which we do not have the strength to do."
