حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ خِرِّيتٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو لَبِيدٍ لُمَازَةُ بْنُ زَبَّارٍ قَالَ: أُرْسِلَتِ الْخَيْلُ زَمَنَ الْحَجَّاجِ، فَقُلْنَا: لَوْ أَتَيْنَا الرِّهَانَ قَالَ: فَأَتَيْنَاهُ، ثُمَّ قُلْنَا: لَوْ مِلْنَا (٢) إِلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ: هَلْ كُنْتُمْ، ، تُرَاهِنُونَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: فَأَتَيْنَاهُ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ، فَقَالَ: " نَعَمْ لَقَدْ رَاهَنَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ لَهُ، يُقَالُ لَهُ سُبْحَةُ فَسَبَقَ النَّاسَ "، فَبُهِشَ (١) لِذَلِكَ، وَأَعْجَبَهُ (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
Abu Lubaid, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated from Mazah bin Ziyar, may Allah be pleased with him, that I sent my horse during the time of Hajjaj bin Yusuf and thought that we also participate in horse racing with a wager. Then we thought that first we should go and ask Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, whether you people used to place wagers on horse racing during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him? So we went to him and asked him, and he replied, "Yes! Once he participated in a horse race with one of his horses, whose name was Subhah, and it went ahead of all the others, which amazed him."
