حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ، مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ يَعْنِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ثَابِتًا الْبُنَانِيَّ، وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ: هَلْ سَأَلْتَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ؟ قَالَ ثَابِتٌ: سَأَلْتُ أَنَسًا، هَلْ شُمِطَ (٢) رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " لَقَدْ قَبَضَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ رَسُولَهُ، وَمَا فَضَحَهُ بِالشَّيْبِ، مَا كَانَ فِي رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ يَوْمَ مَاتَ ثَلَاثُونَ شَعَرَةً بَيْضَاءَ " فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَفَضِيحَةٌ هُوَ؟ قَالَ: " أَمَّا أَنْتُمْ فَتَعُدُّونَهُ فَضِيحَةً، وَأَمَّا نَحْنُ فَكُنَّا نَعُدُّهُ زَيْنًا " (٣)،
Translation
English translation
Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I asked Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did the Prophet (ﷺ) have white hair?" He replied, "When Allah called the Prophet (ﷺ) to Himself, He did not let him be embarrassed by the whiteness of his hair. On the day of his passing, there were not even thirty white hairs on his head and beard." Someone asked, "Is the whitening of hair a cause for embarrassment?" Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "You people consider it a cause for embarrassment; we used to consider it a cause of adornment."
