Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a man who was the scribe of the Prophet (ﷺ). He had also read Surah Al-Baqarah and Aal-e-Imran. Whenever that man recited Surah Al-Baqarah and Aal-e-Imran, he would surpass us greatly. The Prophet (ﷺ) would dictate to him « غفوراً الرحيما» and he would write "Aleema Hakeema" in its place. The Prophet (ﷺ) would say, "Write it like this," but he would say, "I will write as I wish." Similarly, when the Prophet (ﷺ) would dictate to him «عليما حكيما», he would write «سميعا بصيرا» in its place and say, "I will write as I wish." After some time, that man became an apostate and joined the polytheists, and began to say, "Among all of you, I am more knowledgeable than Muhammad (ﷺ). I used to write whatever I wanted in his presence." When that man died, the Prophet (ﷺ) said that the earth would not accept him. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) told me that he went to the place where that man had died, and found him lying outside. He asked the people, "What is the matter with this man?" The people told him, "We have buried him several times, but the earth does not accept him."
