حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ عَلِيٍّ، فَمَرَّ بِهِ جَنَازَةٌ فَقَامَ لَهَا نَاسٌ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: مَنْ أَفْتَاكُمْ هَذَا؟ فَقَالُوا: أَبُو مُوسَى، قَالَ: " إِنَّمَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّةً، فَكَانَ يَتَشَبَّهُ بِأَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ، فَلَمَّا نُهِيَ انْتَهَى " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It was narrated that Abu Ma`mar said:
We were with ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) when a funeral passed by him and some people stood up for it. ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: Who told you to do this? They said: Abu Moosa, He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) only did that once, following the example of the People of the Book, but when he was forbidden to do it, he stopped.
