حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، فَإِذَا قَالُوهَا، عَصَمُوا مِنِّي دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ، وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللهِ " قَالَ: فَلَمَّا قَامَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَارْتَدَّ مَنْ ارْتَدَّ، أَرَادَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ قِتَالَهُمْ، قَالَ عُمَرُ: كَيْفَ تُقَاتِلُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْقَوْمِ وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ؟ قَالَ: فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: وَاللهِ، لَأُقَاتِلَنَّ قَوْمًا ارْتَدُّوا عَنِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَاللهِ لَوْ مَنَعُونِي عَنَاقًا مِمَّا فَرَضَ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، لَقَاتَلْتُهُمْ. قَالَ عُمَرُ: فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ اللهَ شَرَحَ صَدْرَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ لِقِتَالِهِمْ، عَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said: I have been commanded to fight the people until they say "La ilaha illallah" (there is no god but Allah). When they say the kalima, they have protected their lives and wealth from me, except for the right of this kalima, and their reckoning is with Allah. When the fitna of apostasy spread, Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him): How can you fight them when I heard the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) say this? Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: By Allah! I will not differentiate between prayer and zakat, and I will surely fight those who separate the two. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When I saw that Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was determined to fight, I realized that this was indeed the correct opinion.
