حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: ضَرَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " مَثَلَ الْبَخِيلِ وَالْمُتَصَدِّقِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلَيْنِ عَلَيْهِمَا جُنَّتَانِ (٢) مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَدِ اضْطُرَّتْ أَيْدِيهِمَا إِلَى ثَدْيَيْهِمَا وَتَرَاقِيهِمَا، فَجَعَلَ الْمُتَصَدِّقُ كُلَّمَا تَصَدَّقَ بِصَدَقَةٍ انْبَسَطَتْ عَنْهُ حَتَّى تَغْشَى أَنَامِلَهُ، وَتَعْفُوَ أَثَرَهُ، وَجَعَلَ الْبَخِيلُ كُلَّمَا هَمَّ بِصَدَقَةٍ قَلَصَتْ كُلُّ حَلْقَةٍ وَأَخَذَتْ بِمَكَانِهَا ". قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: فَأَنَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ بِإِصْبَعَيْهِ فِي جُبَّتِهِ (٣) ، فَلَوْ رَأَيْتَهُ يُوَسِّعُهَا، ، وَلَا تُوَسَّعُ (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: The example of a miser and a generous spender is like two men who are wearing iron armor from their chest to their collarbone. Whenever the generous person spends, the armor expands in proportion to his spending and it opens up for him. But the miser’s armor becomes tighter and more constricting. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I saw the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) indicating with his two fingers to this side. If only you could have seen the armor of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) as he was trying to expand it, but it was not expanding.
