حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ يَعْنِي الطَّيَالِسِيَّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْخَزَّازُ، عَنْ سَيَّارٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ فَدَخَلَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَالَتْ: أَنْتَ الَّذِي تُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً عُذِّبَتْ فِي هِرَّةٍ لَهَا رَبَطَتْهَا، فَلَمْ تُطْعِمْهَا وَلَمْ تَسْقِهَا؟ فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْهُ - يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ كَذَا قَالَ أَبِي - فَقَالَتْ: هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ؟ إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ مَعَ مَا فَعَلَتْ، كَانَتْ كَافِرَةً، وَإِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ أَكْرَمُ عَلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْ أَنْ يُعَذِّبَهُ فِي هِرَّةٍ، فَإِذَا حَدَّثْتَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ تُحَدِّثُ (١)،
Translation
English translation
Alqamah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that one day we were sitting with Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) also came. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked him, "Is it you who narrated this hadith that a woman was punished only because of a cat which she had tied up, and neither fed it herself nor set it free?" He said, "I heard this hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)." Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Do you know who that woman was? That woman, along with this act, was a disbeliever. A Muslim is far too honorable in the sight of Allah for Allah to punish him only because of a cat. Therefore, when you narrate any hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), reflect upon it thoroughly."
