حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: نَهَى عَنِ الْوِصَالِ قَالُوا: إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ. قَالَ: " إِنِّي لَسْتُ مِثْلَكُمْ، إِنِّي أَظَلُّ عِنْدَ رَبِّي، يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِي، اكْلَفُوا مِنَ الْأَعْمَالِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from the previous chain that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Protect yourselves from fasting continuously with only one pre-dawn meal (suhoor)." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), you fast continuously in this manner." The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "You are not like me in this matter. I spend the night in such a state that my Lord Himself feeds and gives me drink. Therefore, take upon yourselves only as much as you have the strength to bear."
