The meaning of the name is: The Magnificent One

About

"Al-`Azeem" is a superlative derived from the noun `izam, greatness, magnanimity, dignity, honour, esteem, pride... The Absolute Azeem is the One Whose greatness cannot be grasped by vision; it is beyond all limits, so much so that no human intellect can ever absorb it. One who highly regards the signs of Allah, respects religious rites, holds in high esteem anything related to Allah, is surely held in high esteem by both Allah and His servants. The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad, has conveyed the following glad tidings: "One who learns then becomes fully knowledgeable then acts upon what he has learned is called great in the kingdom of the heavens." Ibn `Abbas quotes the Messenger of Allah saying, "If someone enters a room to visit a sick person on the brink of death and he repeats seven times the saying of: `I plead to Allah the Great, Lord of the Great Throne, to heal you,' that sick person will be healed by the Will of Allah."

Al-‘Azeem In The Quran

So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme! Allah—there is no god except Him—is the Living One, the All-sustainer. Neither drowsiness befalls Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that may intercede with Him except with His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they do not comprehend anything of His knowledge except what He wishes. His seat embraces the heavens and the earth and He is not wearied by their preservation, and He is the All-exalted, the All-supreme. And they said, ‘Why was not this Quran sent down to some great man from the two cities?’ Certainly We have given you [the surah of] the seven oft-repeated verses and the great Quran. Your creation and your resurrection are not but as of a single soul. Indeed Allah is all-hearing, all-seeing. All that We say to a thing, when We will it, is to say to it ‘Be!’ and it is. That. And whoever venerates the sacraments of Allah—indeed that arises from the Godwariness of hearts.
