Meaning
The meaning of the name is: The King
About
"Al-Malik" conveys the meaning of "One Who is free, by virtue of His Own merits and characteristics, from depending on anything in existence, while everything in existence depends on Him." Nothing in existence can do without Him, whereas everything that exists derives its existence from Him or because of Him. Everything/everyone is His. Among the Attributes of Allah Almighty, the word "al-Malik" has occurred independently, whereas the word "Malik" is always added to something else, such as "Maliki yawmid-Deen," Master of the Day of Judgment; therefore, the first Attribute has to be more revered.
Al Malik In The Quran
So exalted is Allah, the True Sovereign, there is no god except Him, the Lord of the Noble Throne. Master of the Day of Retribution. In the abode of truthfulness with an omnipotent King. Say, ‘O Allah, Master of all sovereignty! You give sovereignty to whomever You wish, and strip of sovereignty whomever You wish; You make mighty whomever You wish, and You degrade whomever You wish; all choice is in Your hand. Indeed You have power over all things.’ So immaculate is He in whose hand is the dominion of all things, and to whom you shall be brought back. Yaseen : 83
